another love poem

Shake me like a home in the storm.
These walls were not built for strength, so
watch my roof cave in and my windows shatter.
Here it is, lightning, something electric
if I get too close it might kill me
but that’s its nature; I was the fool to approach it.

Natural disasters: when you tremble in awe
before the sheer violence of beauty.
I had to rebuild our house to learn my lesson
so our walls are stronger, our glass thicker.
If rain pounds the door, don’t answer
or we’ll both drown. Let’s stay
dry. Let’s stay inside. I’ll keep us safe from
the inevitable fallout. After all
when love claws at the inside of my heart
desperate to lay feeble fingers on you
the only thing
between us is my rattling ribcage.
